Golden Globe Predictions

The Awards season just keeps going. I must say I find it a little uninteresting this year - it seems to me that more people than ever are screaming at each other, and I have kind of zoned out. It doesn't help that I am still watching awards contenders, so I haven't had a chance to do my own lists yet. But the Globes are always a fun time (especially with Ricky Gervais as a host), and I'm sure once the Oscar nominations hit in a few weeks, I will be right back into it. Until then, let's have a look at the Globes this year, and who I think will win.

Best Picture – Drama
Black Swan
The Fighter
Inception
The King’s Speech
The Social Network
Who Will Win: The Social Network. It has literally won just about every prize there is to win at this point, so it would rather shocking to see them switch it up.
Watch Out For: The King's Speech. They are Foreign, so perhaps they will embrace the one film that feels non-American. I doubt it, but perhaps the season shift starts here.

Best Picture – Musical/Comedy
Alice in Wonderland
Burlesque
The Kids Are All Right
Red
The Tourist
Who Will Win: The nominees are are joke this year, so the won worthy film - The Kids Are All Right wins in a cake walk.
Watch Out For: No one. I mean, look at the other nominees!

Best Director
Darren Aronofsky, Black Swan
David O. Russell, The Fighter
Christopher Nolan, Inception
Tom Hooper, The King’s Speech
David Fincher, The Social Network
Who Will Win: David Fincher, The Social Network. I know of no one who thinks Fincher won't win Best Director, even if The Social Network stumbles down the stretch and loses best picture. It's his.
Watch Out For: Darren Aronofsky, Black Swan. The film is a director's acheivement more than anything else, and the people who like it LOVE it.
Best Actor – Drama
Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network
Colin Firth, The King’s Speech
James Franco, 127 Hours
Ryan Gosling, Blue Valentine
Mark Wahlberg, The Fighter
Who Will Win: Colin Firth, The King's Speech. He played the good boy last year, being nominated and losing for A Single Man. He wins this year.
Watch Out For: Ryan Gosling, Blue Valentine. Had a slow start to awards season, but is coming on strong. Could pull off a HUGE upset.

Best Actress – Drama
Halle Berry, Frankie and Alice
Nicole Kidman, Rabbit Hole
Jennifer Lawrence, Winter’s Bone
Natalie Portman, Black Swan
Michelle Williams, Blue Valentine
Who Will Win: Natalie Portman, Black Swan. She has dominated the category all year, and her big Oscar competition, Annette Bening, is in the other category. Should be easy.
Watch Out For: Michelle Williams, Blue Valentine. Those who hate Black Swan, and there are quite a few, may want to back someone else.

Best Actor – Musical/Comedy
Johnny Depp, Alice in Wonderland
Johnny Depp, The Tourist
Paul Giamatti, Barney’s Version
Jake Gyllenhaal, Love and Other Drugs
Kevin Spacey, Casino Jack
Who Will Win: Paul Giamatti, Barney's Version. Seriously, these are the nominees they came up with? I have no real idea who will win, but Giamatti is my favorite so I'll go with him.
Watch Out For: Johnny Depp for either film. They obviously love him, nominating him twice for performance they didn't deserve them at all.

Best Actress – Musical/Comedy
Annette Bening, The Kids Are All Right
Anne Hathaway, Love and Other Drugs
Angelina Jolie, The Tourist
Julianne Moore, The Kids Are All Right
Emma Stone, Easy A
Who Will Win: Annette Bening, The Kids Are All Right. She is the only surefire Oscar contender in the field - usually a sign of an easy win.
Watch Out For: Julianne Moore, The Kids Are All Right. I'm not the only one who thinks she is actually better in the film than Bening.

Best Supporting Actor
Christian Bale, The Fighter
Michael Douglas, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
Andrew Garfield, The Social Network
Jeremy Renner, The Town
Geoffrey Rush, The King’s Speech
Who Will Win: Christain Bale, The Fighter. He's Batman, it's a showy role in a film they like, I really don't see anyone else beating him.
Watch Out For: Michael Douglas, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. I hate to sound crass, but the could give a "please don't die" award.

Best Supporting Actress
Amy Adams, The Fighter
Helena Bonham Carter, The King’s Speech
Mila Kunis, Black Swan
Melissa Leo, The Fighter
Jacki Weaver, Animal Kingdom
Who Will Win: Melissa Leo, The Fighter. Another showy role, an actress who is due.
Watch Out For: Amy Adams, The Fighter. I like her more than Leo, and I'm not the only one. Also wondering if they can find a clip of her for the show where she doesn't say fuck.

Best Screenplay
Inception - Christopher Nolan
The Kids Are All Right - Lisa Cholodenko/Stuart Blumberg
The King’s Speech - David Seidler
127 Hours - Danny Boyle and Simon Beaufoy
The Social Network - Aaron Sorkin
Who Will Win: The Social Network. Seriously, no contest.
Wacth Out For: No one. Aaron Sorkin could post a video of himself drowning a sackful of kittens and he'd win this one.

Best Foreign Language Film
Biutiful
The Concert
The Edge
I Am Love
In a Better World
Who Will Win: Biutiful. The highest profile nominee.
Watch Out For: I Am Love. The one people actually seem to love.

Best Animated Feature
Despicable Me
How to Train Your Dragon
The Illusionist
Tangled
Toy Story 3
Who Will Win: Toy Story 3. Pixar wins every year - and deservedly so.
Watch Out For: The Illusionist. They are foreign, so perhaps they really love Jacques Tati.

Best Original Score
Alice in Wonderland - Danny Elfman
Inception - Hans Zimmer
The King’s Speech - Alexandre Desplat
127 Hours – A.R. Rahman
The Social Network - Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross
Who Will Win: Inception. They really like the film, and it's winning nothing else tonight.
Watch Out For: The King's Speech. Perhaps a little more classically.

Best Original Song
Burlesque - Bound to You
Burlesque - You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me
The Chornicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader - There’s a Place for Us
Country Strong - Coming Home
Tangled - I See the Light
Who Will Win: Tangled - I See the Light. The only decent film nominated here.
Watch Out For: Burlesque. They did nominated it for Best Picture after all.
